Project Overview
Sparrow supported the UI and UX design of Ecover’s redesigned global e-commerce website. Working within an established creative direction, our role focused on translating the brand’s visual identity into a fully realised, responsive digital experience.
The project involved refining and extending the existing design concepts, evolving a scalable design system, and ensuring that the site performed effectively across devices while meeting accessibility standards. Particular attention was given to creating modular templates, reusable components, and flexible page structures to support the platform long-term.
Translating Brand into Digital
Early design work existed largely in a conceptual state, with creative direction already defined. Our role was to translate that vision into a functional, responsive e-commerce experience.
This involved designing and refining large parts of the interface so it could operate consistently across devices and real user journeys. Layout systems were established, hierarchy defined, and new components and interaction patterns introduced — including subtle microinteractions that enhance usability and provide feedback throughout the interface.
Where necessary, elements were also reworked to improve accessibility and responsiveness, ensuring the digital experience remained faithful to the brand while meeting the practical demands of modern e-commerce.

Product Experience & Search
A significant focus of the project was the development of robust product UI components.
We designed flexible product card systems that work across product listings, promotional modules and search results, helping users quickly understand key product information. Product Detail Pages were structured to balance clarity and depth — supporting ingredient transparency, sustainability messaging and clear calls-to-action.
Search functionality was also carefully considered, with multiple states designed to support intuitive product discovery. Predictive search, quick search overlays and structured results pages were developed to ensure users could navigate the product catalogue efficiently.

Design System & Developer Handover
As the project progressed, a modular design system began to take shape. Reusable components and flexible templates were refined to support future expansion of the platform while maintaining visual consistency.
Accessibility considerations were integrated throughout, from contrast and hierarchy to responsive behaviour across breakpoints.
To support development, detailed technical annotations were produced for templates, components and interaction states. This documentation helped ensure a smooth build process and provides a clear reference point for future contributors working on the platform.
Outcome
The result is a responsive, accessible and scalable e-commerce platform that translates Ecover’s established brand into a clear and functional digital experience. The modular system and reusable components also provide a strong foundation for the brand’s ongoing digital evolution.
